Title
The History of Spiritualism
Subject
A History of Victorian Spiritual Studies
Description
This is another book written by Arthur Conan Doyle that documents the history of Spiritualism. It's important to note that Doyle views this history a purely academic way as the book tries to both provide a history of how the field developed while maintaining the legitimacy of some of the most famous authors in the field of Spiritualism. Passages often paint the tests and professors who carried out these studies as paragons of scientific objectivity and Doyle does his best to prove the objectivity of mediums and ghosts in the everyday.
Included is an image that details the three different organizations that Doyle was the president of, reveal how seriously he took the study of ghosts in Victorian society. It's important for our understanding because Doyle clearly doesn't see this as the fringe science we now view it as but as something that was seriously worth trying to prove the existence of.
