Father James Maxwell was able to organize the established donor relationships with the Chouteau family of St. Louis as well as other interested families, who ranged from St. Genevieve, New Bourbon and many mining districts around what is now Ironton, MO. Each recognizing the need to create a "suitable house for an Academy" in St. Genevieve and agreeing to donated $1,904 in cash and $814 in materials. In that first meeting of subscribers on September 26, 1807, 21 members Board of Trustees was elected and a constitutions was created to govern this future "Louisiana Academy".
