"The End" Illustration in "On the Western Circuit"

Description

This is an image of the illustration provided at the end of the story in the magazine version of "On the Western Circuit." A girl and boy cupid are displayed to be looking at and holding open a book which states, "The End," with "CMC" initialed at the bottom. This illustration depicts the presence of a lack of trust in the name signed on a text, as Edith had signed Anna's name for her on her letters. Additionally, Cupid is the god of love, and this represents the way that written words are able to create affection between individuals. Written communication is what had created feelings of love between Charles and Edith.
