A Historical Review On Panorama Photogrammetry

Subject

Panorama

Description

This article speaks about panorama and how they originated in the 19th century, how they were useful during that time, and how they are still useful to this day. Throughout the article, it goes into great detail about how exactly the panorama camera works and the intricacies of it. It is able to do this through many different pictures and diagrams to give the reader a visual of how these cameras work and why they are beneficial to many people. The originally were used for professional reasons and over time, they have become the kind of images that are aesthetically pleasing and became a kind of virtual reality for the viewer. It also speaks about human vision and how that plays a part into the way a person looks at these images. Through using a panorama camera, the person using it is able to see the world in a different way and through a different lens (literally). This article reminded me of another article that we have read throughout this class entitled, "Virtual Reality, 19th Century Style: The History of the Panorama and Balloon View." This article also speaks about the panorama and how it takes people into a different kind of world that they are not able to see with just the human eye. Both of these articles make the reader think about the ways that different types of technology has advanced people's way of thinking and how something like the panorama has benefitted us over time.
