The long and winding story behind Yankee Stadium's Monument Park

Subject

Monument Park

Description

This article explains to us how Monument Park was originally built and what the purpose of it was. Oddly, it wasn't supposed to be the start of anything big--just a tribute to a singular figure in franchise history: manager Miller Huggins in 1932. After the deaths of legends Lou Gehrig and Babe Ruth, the Yankees decided to honor them with their own plaques as well. Those 3 lone plaques stood there for a few decades until the Yankees decided to turn it into a shrine for all things Yankees. There are a total of 38 plaques in Monument Park today which honor previous Yankee players, managers and executives who took roots to legend that are indelible.
