Communication

Description

In the video, Martin Luther King is making his famous "I have a dream" speech. He addresses the issue of segregation by talking of his dream of the future. A future where people of all races will be able to live together in harmony. Where people will no longer be judged for the color of their skin, but for the contents of their character. This form of communication, which is inclusive, allows everyone to feel apart of his dream. This is a problem that the Black Lives Matter movement is having in todays society. A lot of white people feel as though the movement is saying that they are the most important race, which isn't the case at all.

The movement is calling for the recognition of valuable lives. That Black Lives Matter in a society that says they do, but act contradictory. The problem stems from the basic human need to be included. If one doesn't feel included then they immediately jump to the conclusion that whatever it is must be against them. The Black Lives Matter and Martin Luther King's movements stand for the same principles, but more people sympathize because King used inclusive communication.

When trying to make others understand your point it is easier to convince them if they're involved. If it is explained that the goal is for everyone to live in harmony, then more people will understand that basic human desire. Unfortunately, to make someone sympathize with your point of view they must be included in the plan. Appealing to the human ego is the way to truly make someone understand your viewpoint.
