Introduction
In Jack Kerouac's Author's Introduction to Lonesome Traveler, he writes "Always considered writing my duty on earth." It was his eventual road trip across the United States that became his inspiration to write, and each place he traveled became a new story. Kerouac is remembered for his prose style, stream-of-consiousness method of storytelling, as well as his involvement with the Beatnik movement.
In Kerouac's epic adventures, he searches for companionship, love, and an ultimate truth, all the while wreaking havoc with his friends. This havoc, as captured by Kerouac in a semi-autobiographical collection of poetry, short stories, novels, and more lives in on in many forms.
This exhibition seeks to examine and display both the life and death of Jack Kerouac, and what it means to commemorate him.
