British Claim Innocence

In April 1972, the British Government announced that the British troops did not use excessive force on the Republicans, and thus warranted immunity. In response to the Britiain's contentious policies in Northern Ireland, the IRA retaliated by setting off 20 bombs synchronously in Belfast. The explosions killed multiple British troops and civilians.
