This artifact is a newspaper advertisement for stereoscopes, and stereoscope slides that depict numerous objects and scenes, including a scene that shows a ghost. This advertisement shows a merging of Victorian literature and storytelling with the new concepts of Virtual Reality like the stereoscope through the use of the widely popular ghost stories of that era. By developing and selling stereoscope slides that depict ghosts and supernatural scenes, viewers were able to be more fully immersed in the ghost stories that were being told during the "Christmas and Winter Evenings" that are referenced in the advertisement.
