Title

Illustration from "Life's Little Ironies"

Description

This is a very simple illustration from "Life's Little Ironies." I thought this illustration was interesting due to its simplicity, and the fact that it only illustrates the characters and what they are standing on, and does not show any of the setting. I personally find this interesting because books nowadays often illustrate the setting and work the characters into it, whereas with this piece you have to imagine the setting completely, and the information offered about the characters is just a simple frame. This allows the reader to create their own setting for the story, but limits the immersive qualities of the story itself. Now the readers are suspended more in the immersion of imagination, versus the immersion of imagery and sensory description.
