A Diary written by a woman during the battle of Vicksburg

Description

A diary was written by a woman in New Orleans, who found herself surrounded by many familiar faces yet, feeling entirely alone. A suiter from a neighboring area took her hand and married her immediately. This diary is an account of her adventures in Vicksburg, especially during the battle. The diary was written in 1863 but published around 1885. According to Geo W. Cable, the writer of the diary wished to withhold her name from her published diaries. However, her letters were marked V.L.
