Crowds Gathering to Remember John Lennon
Subject
Photographs taken the day after Lennon was killed
Description
Following his tragic and violent death, fans took to the streets to remember Lennon. One shot captures a group of mourners outside Lennon's apartment building, the Dakota, on December 9. The flag was flown at half-mast, which is usually done to remember someone who has died. The other image captures mourners raising their hand in the peace sign, showing their commitment to peace and not violence. The sheer amount of people that came out to mourn the loss of Lennon speaks to his impact on the world, and just how many people he was able to touch. December 9 became a day of mourning Lennon and his legacy in NYC.
