Welcome: An Introduction to the Podcast

This Omeka site accompanies my podcast entitled "How 2020 Will Impact the Future of the U.S.: Rising Collectivism Due to COVID-19, and the In-Group Bias of Political Parties." Artifact #1: In Varnum & Grossman's 2017 article, “Cultural Change: The How and the Why" they provide some useful definitions of key terms to help understand culture, cultural change, and approaches to predicting it (see artifact on right). These terms will be useful to understand going forward, and pay particular attention to: culture, cultural change, and the ecological approach.

The purpose of this podcast is to predict cultural changes the United States might see in the next 5-10 years, using concepts in cultural psychology. Throughout the course of the podcast, I will be using cultural psychology to provide evidence for two predictions: 

  1. The United States will become more collectivistic due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
  2. Due to recent political upheaval/tensions, there will be a stronger in-group bias for one’s own political party than we have ever seen before.
