A.Ham - Examining Hamilton Merchandise

Hamilton A.HAM Flat Brim Cap

This is a hat with Hamilton's abbreviated aigniture on it. This item can be purchased at the Richard Roger's Teatre, Hamilton: The store, or online at broadwaymerchandiseshop.com/stores/hamilton.

This item, a hat that says "A.Ham" on it, it meant to show the integration of Hamiton, a historical figure, in our everyday lives. Now, in order for a historical figure to establish themselves in present day society they must first, do something of importance. Second, they must be relatable to the people of present day. It is through these connections, through this relatability that people are willing to integrate and even look to for inspiration, historical figures.

Sadly, there are many people in history who have done something of importnace. We can look to the creators of the oven or the elevator. These are both important inventions that we use in daily life, yet we do not wear their names on t-shirts. Similarly, even other political figures including Chester A. Arthur are forgotten. Who is Chester A. Author? Well, he is the most forgotten president in U.S. history according to time.com. Why don't we have hats that parade President Chester A. Arthur around like Marc Jacobs clothing?

Does the A.Ham hat then, give us status, does show our interest, or instead, does it show what we believe in. And does it show that what we believe in alligns with this man who's name we wear accross our foreheads. By wearing an A.Ham hat we establish our beliefs and our interest. We show that we are interested in history and music. This external expression consequently results in an alterior community. By displaying one's beliefs outwardly, you accept that the public can relate to, or negate your opinion. It is through this expression that connections are able to be made. This expression of support for Hamilton in public domains opens the oppurtunity for a community centered in similar interest and ideals, uniting people who otherwise would not have notices, or spoke to one another.

And all of that, in a hat.
