An Introduction

What if you rarely knew the world as it used to be? What if you started kindergarten from behind a screen? What if you were born in the midst of a pandemic, and socialization is a foreign concept to you? What if you were once an active kid, and your average daily screen time increased due to restrictions placed on playing with friends? This is the life of a child growing up in the age of the COVID-19 pandemic. This podcast is to help understand the mental, social, and physical effects the pandemic has on children today.

After my podcast introduction, I will share with you relevant and recent information pertaining to COVID-19 effects on children and a number of cultural psychology constructs that will eventually spark a cultural change in the United States. Here are my predictions for our next generation based on the impacts of COVID-19:

  1. Technology will become the center of our world because of the increased screen time, social media usage, and videogame usage due to the pandemic. Children and adolescents today will grow up less motivated than their predecessors. We can expect lower than average academic performance.
  2. Our next generation of adults will show higher than average cases of mental illness and decreased socialization.
  3. The United States will adapt to a culturally tighter lifestyle, producing an influx of more cautious and less open individuals.
  4. Gender equality will decrease as a result of a faster life history strategy.
