New York Public Library Lion

NYPL- Stephen A. Schwarzman Building

New York City and the people that inhabit it are known for their speed and fast-paced nature. Streets are filled with store-fronts and buildings that continuously change purpose, ownership, and names.  But, some locations remain intact and become landmarks of the city.  They are places that tourist mark in their itineraries as must-see, city icons, therefore memorializing them as a part of an ever-changing cities landscape.  They become a part of the collective memory of all those who have lived in and visited the city.  A must-see and inseparable piece of the city’s history.  One of these locations is the Midtown Location of the New York Public Library, the Stephen A. Schwarzman Building.

This Omeka Exhibit will work to display the varying levels of symbolic and practical significance that the library has held, and will be done using a timeline describing it's shifting throughout history.
