Republican Mural

Irish Republicans were relentless in their pursuit of a free and independent Ireland. They felt that the loyalists were traitors who wanted Ireland to be forever under the heal of British forces. May 8th, 1987 was one of the darkest days for the Irish Republicans as many IRA members were ambushed and killed on that day by the British military. This political mural urges people to remember the brave IRA soldiers who were unjustly murdered by the British. This mural displays the Irish flag in the background on fire suggesting that the death of these IRA members means that Ireland is farther from gaining independence from Britain than before. The only way to secure a free Ireland is if people acknowledge the sacrifice made by these men and continue their struggle so that their deaths will not be in vain.
