In the bar graph, the Gray bar represents the grade-specific linear growth estimate for the first 200 days of 2020–2021. Blue bars represent estimates adjusted for missingness  Red bars represent 2019 growth estimates for the same grade.

This demonstrates how missing school days, particularly prolonged absences during the pandemic, impaired oral reading fluency. 

Artifact #3: COVID-19 educational consequences are not evenly distributed among income.

The findings stress that children in relatively impoverished districts may have been dealing with a variety of COVID-related challenges, and they show that the educational consequences of COVID were not and are not evenly distributed.
