Welcome!

Podcast: This Omeka site accompanies my podcast, "Reading Levels are Below Grade Level in Elementary Schools Due to The COVID-19 Pandemic."

Artifact #1: Average reading test scores between fall 2019, fall 2020, and fall 2021.

This artifact depicts the reading scores from the fall of 2019 to the fall of 2021. The significant declines in reading achievement happened between fall 2020 and fall 2021, for a total test score change of 0.09 to 0.17 SDs since the epidemic began.

Lower reading levels as a result of the pandemic have had a stronger impact depending on grade level. The greatest losses will be seen among students in grades 3-5 during the fall of 2021 (e.g., were in grades 1-3 when the epidemic began).
