Monument Park

The long and winding story behind Yankee Stadium's Monument Park

Monument Park is an open air museum located in Yankee Stadium. It contains a collection of monuments, plaques, and retired numbers honoring distinguished members of the New York Yankees.

The history of Monument Park goes back to 1932 when the Yankees dedicated a monument to Yankee manager Miller Huggins. Additional team players were honored with monuments and plaques throughout the years.

Monument Park became formalized in 1985 and became open for public access. When the Yankees moved to their new ballpark in 2009, a replica Monument Park was built beyond the centerfield fences and the contents of the old one transported over. This is a prime example of their committment to tradition.
