Title

Chintzes and Curtains Advertisement

Description

The advertisement for the chintzes or curtains relates to the story “The Diary of Mr. Poynter” it is what James is original supposed to get for his Aunt before he goes and buys the old diaries instead. It also the what James and Miss Denton plan to have the pattern they find in the Diary made into the curtains that James forgot to purchase initially. The curtains in this advertisement appear quite plan and stale compared to how the pattern that they are planning to replicate for their own curtains. The advertisement is from 1918 and the story was published in 1919 meaning one could assume that the chintzes depicted in the image of the advertisement are meant show the ideal style of chintzes for the time period. Also one could assume that this was the style that James and Miss Denton were planning to initially buying before they found the pattern in the diary. It is interesting to consider how the pattern would make the new curtains different or standout compared to what was the style of the time period.
