Bill Clinton Meets with Sinn Fein Leader Gerry Adams

On his visit, President Clinton met with leaders from both the Nationalist and Loyalist sides of the conflict. When talking about the Nationalists, this is represented by his meeting with Gerry Adams, who was the leader of Sinn Fein, the prominent Nationalist political party in Northern Ireland. Like his loyalist counterparts, Adams was quite the controversial figure, and this means that was a really big deal for Clinton to be meeting with him. It meant that previous ideas of what was going on would not hold back the talks and would not stop Clinton from getting involved and helping a peaceful agreement be reached.
