Power and Role of Black Lives Matter Movement

This quote from former President of the United States Barack Obama in an event in London on April 23, 2016 showcases how this movement is slowly inducing ideas of a new culture in the American society. Furthermore it shows how although it may seem slow in a few years this powerful movement will bring about cultural change in the United States of America. It will promote individual rights.

This Table shows the purpose of the Black LivesMovement(BLM); the BLM Movement is not mostly focused on resource mobilization and social movement frames but rather on universalist frames. This table was taken from a study conducted by ALvin Tilery in 2018 to study the BLM movement through its main platform i.e. Twitter. The Twitter feeds of the BLM organizations promote a lot more universalist frames related to socioeconomic status or individual rights, than social movement frames such as gender, racial and LGBTQ identities

This Figure is a follow up to the precedent Artifact; showcasing the main purpose of the BLM. The main purpose of the BLM is not to promote violence but instead support minorities but especially promote universalist frames that will change te American culture. Furthermore the researchers did not find any tweets that urged  adherents of the movement to pursue disruptive protest activities. This Figure from Alvin Tillery’s study on the Black Lives Matter Movement on Twitter aims  at proving  that unlike what some people believe about what this movement is promoting, it’s not promoting bad behavior.
