Introduction

This Exhibit will be about the historic and horrifying event that took place in Londonderry (Derry), Northern Ireland, on January 30, 1972, Bloody Sunday. Bloody Sunday is when Roman Catholic Commmunity came together to protest the opposed the British government’s policy of interning suspected members of the IRA without trial. The protesters were all Northern Catholics and were marching to protest of the British policy of internment of suspected Irish nationalists. The British authorities gave orders for the march to be banned and sent troops to break it up. The soldiers fired randomly into the crowd of protesters, killing 13 and wounding 15.
