Technology
This quote is stated by Michael Varnum and Igor Grossmann in the article “Cultural Change: The How and the Why." The quote highlights how technology has always played a big role in society. During the pandemic, our perception of technology shifted because we started to rely on technology more as it allowed us to maintain contact online. The use of technology during the pandemic created a sense of unity.
This is an image of a class conducted through Zoom by Professor Liz Yanoff at the college of Saint Rose. The image highlights how students were still able to learn despite not being physically present in class.
This quote is stated by Brook Calton, Nauzley Abedini, and Michael Fartkinn in the article “Telemedicine in the Time of Coronavirus.” The quote highlights how the use of technology, primarily the rise of telemedicine has allowed many individuals to continue getting the medicine they need without having to visit a clinic or hospital. During this time people avoided settings such as clinics and hospitals because they thought they had a higher chance of getting the virus there. Telemedicine became especially important for individuals that needed to consult a doctor about health concerns that were non-covid-19 related. This allowed them to get their doctor's perspective on certain issues and to determine whether the issue is urgent or can wait for an in-person appointment after things have calmed down. The rise in telemedicine also allowed doctors to continue earning an income by working online.
Conclusion
These artifacts demonstrate adaptations that were crucial to our survival. Prior researchers such as Varnum and Grossman along with many others predicted these changes that are occurring now by studying pathogen prevalence in different countries long before the pandemic happened.
These adaptations were necessary because we don’t know how long this pandemic is going to last. Students need to continue learning, likewise, people need to get paid in order to pay their bills. Through the internet, we were able to continue certain aspects of our lives. Furthermore, adhering to social norms by wearing masks, social distancing, and having more of a collectivistic attitude will allow us to fight the virus by stopping the spread.
