Head on the Platter

For Lunch

In this image it is no doubt that my head appears to be on a platter. What becomes more interesting is how it got there. Magic? Well I am no magician. The trick or the illusion per say in this image is rather simpler than it looks. The table which appears to be normal table, in fact is not. What makes it different is that in between the two legs of the table is a mirror. Therefore, the mirror allows for the table to look as though nothing exist other than the ground. Which then triggers the question of where’s the rest of my body? It is all there. Behind the mirror at least.

This exhibit is known as “Head on the Platter” and is actually connected to the “Rotated Room”. If you pay close attention to the design in the Rotated Room, there seems to be a mini later. Next to that mini latter is the entrance into getting into the Head on the Platter exhibit. You literally have to crawl into it, and then peek your head out. Unlike the Rotated Room there is not much you can do within this exhibit other than make it appear as though your head is on a platter. Or perhaps that it seems impossible to create another illusion out of it because it has not been posted on Instagram.

Once again individuals rely on Instagram to illustrate what type of illusions can be created within certain exhibits. It is almost as though if we did not have Instagram, we probably would not know what to do at all. It is fascinating because this exhibit is pretty self-explanatory and should not require an illustration of what illusion is supposed to be created. This reveals that individuals are relying on Instagram solely rather than interacting with other members to determine the illusion that is to be formed.
