Christmas time in the Cathedral

Thousands Flock To Masses At St. Patrick's Cathedral

#CHRISTMAS IN THE CATHEDRAL

Gathered in 51 street between 5th Avenue and Madison Avenue, nearly 15,000people were gathered this Christmas in St Patrick's Cathedral. It is one of the many traditions the church keeps alive. A church full of beautiful stories and memories makes it available to more people each year to be a part of it. The Cathedral's presence downtown makes this a tourist attraction for many people, while also being a religious visit at the same time.

CBS news went to the Cathedral and started interviewing different people coming out of the masses. The numbers are actually pretty astonishing for a church to get this amount of people in there. There was a lottery for tickets to get inside, and there are about 2000+ seats inside the church. The church had about 8 masses throughout the day, which adds up to roughly 16,000 people visiting the Cathedral on Christmas. This history repeats itself each year with more people coming in. Many people were coming in from other states and even countries as far as Chile. Visitors got a twist to the typical NYC tourist attraction sites by adding a mass to their itinerary.

St Patrick's image on different mediums has done the job of getting thousands of people each year to come and be a part of the tradition. The news does the job of promoting St Patrick Cathedral as the place to be during Christmas or any special Christian holiday. People are brought together by the mediums that portray this narrative of being in the cathedral together celebrating the tradition. A lot of tourist want to take place in the public (Traditional Holiday Masses), collective (Special group masses), Social (just visiting), and Individual (personal memory) memories that the Cathedral creates through different mediums. Its a huge part of being in NYC especially as a practicing or non-practicing Christian.
