Why The Memorial is Important : Truthers

Truthers

The September 11th Memorial & Museum was built for two reasons first it “remembers and honors the nearly 3,000 victims of these attacks and all those who risked their lives to save other” and second it “serves as the country's principal institution concerned with exploring the implications of the events of 9/11, documenting the impact of those events and exploring 9/11's continuing significance.”

After the September 11th, 2001 terrorist attacks came many conspiracy theories which were soon backed by “truthers”. Truthers are “conspiracy theorists who dispute the mainstream account of the September 11 attacks of 2001”. Almost 18 years later and “truthers” are still very present and make their presence known. Truthers can be seen outside of the memorial everyday attempting to handout booklets, shouting “Inside Job” and trying to talk to civilians about their beliefs. Truthers have also been seen outside of the memorial service every September 11th as family members are in the memorial remembering their loved ones.

The memorial and museum is an important part for the truthers movement because the museum explains in depth how and why the towers fell and debunks every conspiracy possible.
