Comrades by Eva Gore-Booth
This poem is from the perspective of the woman of Ireland at the time. While females at the time did not have the strongest voices, even the poem written from the perspective of the mother was written by a man, Eva Gore-Booth was able to write this short poem that captures the nationalism that Ireland felt after the events of Easter 1916 Rising. Within the poem, she is showing the aftermath of the prisoners, how their hands are bound by chains behind the prison gates. While they are held in captivity being punished for fighting for their rights. Their motive and message are carried by the wind and shared among many; taking a more spiritual approach to describing a nation's unity after the tragic and historical event.
