Wishes For My Son, Born On St Cecilia's Day, 1912 by Thomas MacDonagh
This poem is demonstrating the connection and expectations that the rebels have for the next generation of Irish Citizens. At first, the poem is commemorating the birth of his son, which is meant to represent the next generation. MacDonagh is writing to his son, telling him that he does not regret his decisions that he has made and that he is happy to sacrifice himself for the greater cause. Yet he must not take these actions in vain and instead use them as motivation for himself to continue the fight for freedom. MacDonagh being one of the main leaders of the Easter, 1916 Rising and was executed after many tirals.
