Easter Week By Joyce Kilmer
Easter Week by Joyce Kilmer was written as a memorial for one of the Easter Rising leaders, Joesph Plunkett. Joesph Plunkett was also an Irish poet from Dublin and later on became one of the original members of the IRB Military Committee that were responsible for the planning of the rising that Plunkett greatly contributed to. The poem by Kilmer addresses Yeatss' claim that romantic Ireland is dead; refuting this claim by stating that due to the events that occurred on Easter Sunday, Ireland was reborn. It goes back to the idea the Bloody Sunday was failed and successful rising. This idea is created because the many deaths from this day were believed to not go in vain. While there were many who lost their lives, they are now a symbol of hope for Ireland in its journey for independence.
