The Road To Derry By Seamus Heaney
This poem by Seamus Heaney does not exactly highlight the events on Easter 1916, but they demonstrate the events of Bloody Sunday. Which is one of many events that occurred after the hope that was generated from the Easter 1916 Rising. As reflected in the prior poems, the events, and sacrifices that took place generated immense hope for people in Ireland. From there people began to take their own action and the event of Bloody Sunday was conducted. At this protest of 26 citizens of Derry, the British shot them down resulting in 16 of the teenage men to die immediately. This poem is once again another way to memorialize the ones that lost their lives in protesting and joining the fight for Irish independence from the British.
