The Mother by Patrick Henry Pearse
Within this poem, we are given a different possible perspective of the results of the events of the Easter 1916 Rising. This poem The Mother by Patrick Henry Pearse offers the perspective of the fallen men's mother. How this mother of one of the noble members that lost their life, feels sadness yet pride for her son. The poem is from the perspective of the mother and begins with a prayer that she does not hold resentment. That her sons' will not die because of their names and the sacrifices that they have committed and many of the other citizens committed, will be spoken on. By the second stanza, the mother shows her sadness through the mention of watching her son's eye come into this world, just to watch their eyes close as they leave. Yet still, she knows that the cause was great and she holds pride in that.
